To extend the lifespan of your refrigeration hoses and maintain safety, you are advised to strictly adhere to the following requirements:
Proper Installation and Routing
Do not install the hose in a twist. Twist will reduce greatly the ability of the hose to withstand pressure.
Hoses can undergo slight changes in length under pressures (usually about -4% to +2% for pressure change in hose).
Be sure to leave enough play when routing them, and provide proper bend radius.Ensure that they are routed away from extremely hot surfaces such as exhaust.
If it cannot be avoided, install an abrasion resistant cover for protection against any contact with moving parts.
Inspection and Cleaning
Check the surface of the hoses. If there is any evidence of cracking, blistering, localized ballooning, exposed wires, and excessive abrasion, replace it.
Check the crimp between hose and metal fittings, using electronic leak detector or soapy water, for leak of refrigerant in the refrigeration system.
Dilute cleaning agents, such as alkali, acid, and strong solvents should not be used to soak hoses. It is best to wipe with a soft cloth and warm water with mild soap.
Storage and Preventative Replacement
The storage of a hose that has not yet been put into use should be in an ambient, dry place in an ozone-free warehouse, without direct sunlight or under heavy load.
Even when there is no sign of deterioration, under severe operating conditions such as in a construction or a machine vibrating greatly, you should have it replaced preventatively according to the time of working hours (say, every 2-3 years), in order to be spared from the loss of large quantity of refrigerants due to stoppage of equipment.
