Composition and Manufacturing Process of Steel Wire Braided Rubber Hoses

Oct 26, 2025|

Steel wire braided rubber hoses, widely used in industrial applications as high-pressure flexible conduits, are key components in industries such as hydraulic transmission, petrochemicals, and engineering machinery due to their excellent pressure resistance, flexibility, and wear resistance. Their core performance depends on a scientifically sound composition method and precise manufacturing process.

Steel wire braided rubber hoses mainly consist of three parts: an inner rubber layer, a reinforcing layer (steel wire braiding layer), and an outer rubber layer. The inner rubber layer, in direct contact with the conveyed medium, must possess excellent corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and airtightness. It is typically made of high-performance materials such as nitrile rubber, polyurethane, or fluororubber, and formed through an extrusion process. The reinforcing layer is the core structure that withstands high pressure. It is composed of multiple layers of high-strength steel wires braided at a specific angle (usually 54°44′). The steel wires are tightly wound around the inner rubber layer using a precision braiding machine, forming a mesh structure that ensures the hose is not easily deformed or burst under high pressure. The steel wires are mostly made of high-quality carbon steel or stainless steel, and undergo pretreatment to enhance adhesion to the rubber. The outer rubber layer provides protection against abrasion, UV radiation, and environmental aging. It is typically made of neoprene or ethylene propylene rubber and is also extruded over the reinforcing layer.

During manufacturing, the bonding strength between the layers is crucial. A vulcanization process is used to create a strong chemical bond between the rubber and the steel wire, while the braiding density and steel wire tension are strictly controlled to ensure the overall stability of the hose's performance. This scientific composition and rigorous process control together determine the high reliability and long service life of the steel wire braided hose, meeting the stringent requirements of modern industry for high-pressure fluid transmission.
