How To Identify Hydraulic Hose Delamination & Internal Separation

Oct 18, 2026|

Hydraulic hose delamination means the bonding between rubber layers or rubber and steel reinforcement fails. It is a hidden internal defect that you cannot see from outside at the early stage.

Main causes

Excessive pressure spikes and frequent pressure cycling, tearing the bonding interface inside the hose.

High temperature aging of inner rubber, which loses elasticity and peels away from reinforcement layers.

Incompatible hydraulic fluid erodes the rubber material and destroys adhesion.

Improper crimping: over-crimp squeezes the hose structure and breaks interlayer bonding.

Warning signs

Unusual pressure fluctuation in hydraulic circuit

Slow actuator response

Noise inside the hose during operation

Outer cover still intact, but hose already loses pressure bearing capacity

Inspection & replacement advice

Regular pressure testing helps find early delamination. Once delamination appears, the hose must be replaced immediately. Do not continue using it even if there is no external leakage. Internal separation will block oil flow or cause sudden burst under working pressure.

Prevention

Select hoses matching the fluid and temperature range. Avoid repeated pressure shocks. Control crimping dimension strictly during hose assembly. Follow storage rules to prevent premature aging before installation.
