Steel wire braided rubber hoses are widely used in industry, agriculture, and engineering machinery due to their excellent pressure resistance, flexibility, and abrasion resistance, for conveying gases, liquids, or particulate media. However, improper use may lead to shortened hose life, leaks, or even safety accidents. Here are some key usage tips to help you use steel wire braided rubber hoses more safely and efficiently.

 

Correct Hose Selection

Before using steel wire braided rubber hoses, select the appropriate model and specifications based on the specific working conditions. Pay close attention to the following parameters:

1. Working Pressure: Ensure the maximum working pressure of the hose is not lower than the actual system pressure, and retain a certain safety margin (generally, at least 1.5 times is recommended).

2. Media Compatibility: Confirm that the inner layer material of the hose is compatible with the conveyed medium (such as oils, acid and alkali solutions, steam, etc.) to avoid aging or damage to the hose due to chemical corrosion.

3. Temperature Range: The applicable temperature range for the hose is typically -40℃ to +120℃ (depending on the specific material). Exceeding this range may affect its physical properties.

 

Installation Precautions

1. Avoid Twisting and Excessive Bending: During installation, the hose should be kept naturally extended. The minimum bending radius should not be lower than the manufacturer's recommended value; otherwise, it may cause the steel wire layer to break or the inner rubber layer to wear.

2. Prevent External Pressure: The hose should be kept away from sharp objects, high-temperature heat sources, and areas of mechanical friction. If necessary, a protective sleeve or guard plate should be installed.

3. Proper Fixation: Use dedicated hose clamps or brackets to fix the hose, avoiding loosening of joints or wear of the hose due to vibration or movement.

 

Maintenance During Use

1. Regular Inspection: During use, regularly inspect the hose surface for cracks, bulges, wear, or exposed steel wire layers. Replace immediately if any problems are found.

2. Avoid Overpressure Use: Ensure stable system pressure during operation to avoid hose bursting due to sudden pressure increases.

3. Preventing Media Stagnation: After transporting liquids or viscous media, if the hose is to be out of use for an extended period, it is recommended to drain any residue from the hose to prevent corrosion or blockage.

 

Storage and Maintenance

1. Storage Environment: The hose should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated environment, avoiding direct sunlight, ozone, or strong acid/alkali gases.

2. Winding Method: For long-term storage, it is recommended to wind the hose into a large-diameter coil (avoiding small-radius bends) and lay it flat or hang it to prevent compression by heavy objects.

3. Regular Cleaning: After use, the hose surface can be wiped with a neutral detergent to remove oil or impurities, but avoid using corrosive solvents.

 

Safety Warnings

• Keep away from open flames: If transporting flammable media (such as fuel oil or gas), ensure the hose is leak-free and keep it away from heat sources and sparks.

• Replace aging hoses promptly: Even without obvious damage, hoses should be replaced if they have exceeded their recommended lifespan (usually 2-5 years, depending on operating conditions).
